Should I write a sequel to the story I’m writing?
I’m writing a historic/sci-fi novel about a man who is abducted by aliens, as he is looking for a slum dog who tried to steal his wallet. It takes place in 2056 in Moscow, Russia after they turned communist again.
I’m thinking of writing a sequel about his grandparents in 2012 in Russia. should I? If so, I’ll write another, about his clone, made from his liver.
P.S. I’ll post the story on the web after I finish.
If I do, Should it be a sequel or prequel?
“First things first”! Complete the novel which you are currently writing before you contemplate sequels and prequels. What are your aspirations for the initial story? Are you hoping that it will professional and polished enough that you might interest a publisher in paying you for it? If that were to be the case, your publisher would doubtlessly decide whether or not a series would be desirable based upon sales of the original novel. If you are writing simply to post your story on the web somewhere — not a good idea if you want to sell it; who will pay for what can be read for nothing? — then, whether or not you write a series, would be entirely your decision, since money would not be involved. Nonetheless, to reiterate, I think that you should finish your manuscript which you are writing now, then afterward consider the others. Your concept does seem original and intriguing, worth your time to write. See how it goes. Good luck!
