scifi book, I’ve the plot, I need title or author?
So, it’s a novel, not a short story, it’s not very old (let’s say between 1980 and 2007), it’s NOT from D.Brown
The plot
A strange , red meteor is found somewhere near the south pole. The meteor composition is unknown, but it’s very dense and weights a lot
Someone plan an expedition with a ship to take the meteor, but things go wrong when a Navy ship interfere.
This 2nd ship is a frigate or a destroyer from Argentina or Chile (I don’t remember), because Argentina (or Chile) owns the piece of land on which the meteor was found.
The scientists try to defend themselves, things go wronger, and finally the 2 ships sank in the ocean with the meteor.
At the end we discover that the meteor was probably a sort of “alien egg” and not a meteor at all, but the final is undisclosed
