Over the past decade or so we’ve seen people playing games over the internet become big business. In the past it used to be people locked away in their bedrooms playing some gun-shooting game on their own. These days people of all ages are playing video games online, whether they’re playing sports games or battling in a medieval universe millions play games over the internet and it’s become more and more popular over the years as technology has moved on.
These days most households will have a broadband internet connection, an always live link to the World Wide Web. People no longer just check their emails and shop online, modern video game consoles now connect to the internet as well as communities of their own where you can play soccer with someone from Italy, Go blast some aliens with someone from Japan or even battle Pokemon with someone from Texas.
Popular video game consoles such as the Sony Playstation, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii all connect to the internet and with the Xbox live online service alone having millions of subscribers worldwide it’s obvious that almost everyone who’s got a console is playing on it over the internet too.
Obviously in order to maintain a playable experience these games are putting a lot of strain upon the service providers, not that they’re complaining, since the online gaming culture boomed they have seen massive increases in customers taking out the higher speed broadband packages, many of them using computer games in their advertisements to entice a new breed of customer in.
It’s not only playing games with others halfway across the world that has drawn people in, many games offer online content that expands their game further, big name games such as Call of Duty 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV have both announces extra content for their games that can only be bought via online networks such as Xbox Live and The Playstation Network. These services cover other aspects of the media too such as movie trailers and even music being touted as the next phase for their growth.
With Wireless Broadband being more and more common with the typical customer this use of home internet has taken off considerably. In the future it is speculated that services like these as well as Apple’s TV box will facilitate the ability to pay for and download full movies in high definition as well as the latest album by your favourite band. Whilst this may seem like an impossible feat, broadband suppliers in Japan have speeds almost five times the maximum over here and as with most technology it’s only a matter of time before it comes to the masses in the west.
If you are looking for cheap broadband whether you have an existing provider or not then you can compare broadband deals online. Also if you are thinking about changing your supplier then check your connection using one of the various broadband speed test websites to see whether you are getting your money’s worth.
