Area 51 Video
area 51 signs? is google gona have to pay?

i saw a video of the signs outside of area 51 and alot of them say that “photography of this area is prohibited” and there are fines you would have to pay and stuff like that. yet google maps/earth has the whole dam place on picture in their google maps and google earth. so did they have to pay the fines or what?

The short answer is no. The National Security Act, along with the Attorney General, President of the United States, Congress, the Department of Justice, and recently Homeland Security, have the power, and can take down any photos they deem a threat to the security and safety of the United States. Look up the Skylab incident and you can see how. Freedom to information comes at a price, and in the long run government agency’s have decided that having those photos online is not any more of a risk than the next worst thing. Case in point: those photos are still online. (you try controlling the internet in a country that eats, breathes, and sleeps freedom!)

As for those “Photography of this Area is Prohibited” signs. Those are outside every government installation, military base, and high security areas around the country (I have never understood why conspiracy theorist like to use those signs and the signs of “deadly force authorized” as proof of a military cover up. Those signs are outside every U.S. base in the world!)

To answer your question, Yes you will be given a ticket for taking photos, IF YOU ARE ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY (remember it is only trespassing if you are asked to leave and you don’t go). You can’t stop people on public land a mile away with a high powered lens. Case in point: outside my Air Force Base, plane spotters (tail watchers) take photos of jets arriving and leaving the base. Security Forces patrol the area the spotters sit, but they can’t do anything because they are on private property next to the base. The Sheriff will come out and try to help Security Forces get rid of the spotters, but in the end, there is nothing illegal going on.

To answer your question, No “Google” will not have to pay a fine. Space is public property and those satellites are private property.
