Is it really a good idea to try to contact aliens in outer space?
Why or why not?
I’m a bit surprised more people didn’t mention the possibility of the aliens being hostile. If they are able to reach us, then we can conclude that chances are they are more intelligent then us. And if they are anything like us, wouldn’t they jar us up, poke & probe us, cut us up, cage us, and enslave or experiment on us? But I do see the benefits IF they turn out somehow to be intelligent AND compassionate beings. I may be just used to us humans, but what are the chances of that? hahaha
It could be a really bad idea to just blurt out, through radio, “here we are! Come on over!”. We can´t possibly know what their intentions are. Suppose they instinctively destroy any other civilization, that could become rivals in the future, as soon as they find them. They could do so in an instant and there wouldn´t be a single thing we could do to stop them. Such a civilization would be actively search for other “threatening” civilizations so they would find us eventually. But hopefully a benign civilization finds us first. They could help us solve the many problems we have on earth. Energy. Disease. Pollution. They could help us with so much. But the risk is too great. Better they make contact with us first than the other way around.
