Is it possible that our Solar System is the only existing today?
If stars are billions of light years away? Could they all be dead and non-existant?
And to further more
If stars a billion light years a way. does that mean they are a billion years old
and if so
if there was such thing as aliens from outer space.
wouldn’t it seem like they would almost have to come from our solar system?
If the aliens did actually come from another star from a far off galaxy. Wouldn’t they have to leave their planet billions of years ago.
and if they left a billion years ago
wouldnt they maybe forget the whole reason in the first place on why they were coming to our planet?
I don’t think so, IMHO. GOD Is So Vast, Infinite, Eternal, Creative I don’t believe that we are it. +++”How many solar systems are in our galaxy? I have a question from our young friends at the Mountain Home Air Force Base Youth Activities Center in Mountain Home, Idaho. They wonder how many solar systems are in our galaxy. Well, I wonder the same thing! I wish I knew the answer to this thought-provoking question, but not only do I not know, no one does. So I guess you could hang up right now, or you might want to keep listening, because even though I don’t know the answer, this question brings up some thrilling ideas.
For many years scientists have studied our solar system, consisting of the Sun plus 9* planets, as well as dozens of moons, hundreds of known comets, and thousands of known asteroids. But until the last few years, we knew of no other solar systems. This may seem surprising, as the Sun is one of around 200 billion stars just in the Milky Way galaxy alone. With all those other stars, why haven’t scientists studied other solar systems, at least enough to know how many are in our galaxy? Well, the reason is that planets around other stars are really really really hard to find. As you may have heard me talk about in a previous month, the planets shine only by the light they reflect from the star they orbit, and they don’t reflect much light at that. And the stars, along with any planets under their control, are so far away that we can’t pick out a faint planet near a distant star any more than you could make out a firefly next to a brilliant searchlight miles away.
Young Marc meets the astronomers. So although scientists, philosophers, writers, and people like you who have been fascinated by the universe have thought about other solar systems for centuries, they haven’t had any to study. When I was young, this was one of many topics that I spent a great deal of time wondering about. In fact, when I was in the ninth grade, I was lucky enough to meet an astronomer who thought he had detected two planets around Barnard’s Star, one of the closest stars to our solar system. It was quite a thrill for me to meet someone involved in such exciting work. Alas, later evidence suggested his conclusions were incorrect, but I learned a great deal about the subject, as well as about the scientific method, by studying what this impressive astronomer had accomplished.
Finally in the middle 1990s, astronomers found strong evidence of planets around other stars. In all cases, they found the planets not by taking pictures of them, but rather by detecting their astonishingly gentle tugs on the stars they orbit. Although the star holds the planet tightly in its gravitational grip, the planet also exerts a gravitational pull back on the star, and that is what astronomers measure. It amounts to seeing the star wobble back and forth very slightly as the planet completes each orbit. You can learn more about this gravitational dance by visiting [here] The Space Place Web site at spaceplace.nasa.gov. Go to Space Science in Action, and try to solve the extraterrestrial riddle.
NASA is working on several space missions that will allow scientists not only to find other solar systems but also to study the planets there in greater detail. Some of the intriguing questions these missions might help answer are how common are other solar systems; is our solar system typical, with giant planets like Jupiter and smaller ones like Earth; how do solar systems form and evolve; are there other planets capable of supporting life; and is there life on other planets?
So far, astronomers have found about 70 solar systems and are discovering new ones every year. Given how many they have found in this neighborhood of the Milky Way galaxy, scientists estimate that there may be many billions of solar systems in our galaxy. Whether this estimate is correct, and how similar other solar systems are to ours, remain to be seen. It has only been a few years since the first solar system apart from ours was detected, so this whole subject is still in its infancy. By the time our friends who asked the questions are adults, we will know a great deal more. Perhaps someday you will help find the answers. And even if you don’t, you may grow up in a time when humankind has a much clearer idea of how we and our home planet fit into the cosmos.
Thanks again for calling Dr. Marc at The Space Place.

Despite the fact that a majority of people believe aliens exist, we have yet to have a public close encounter of the third kind. However, if a race from outer space is really visiting earth or even living amongst us. What are the eight reasons our planet may interest these visitors?
Depending on if the alien visits us with either a friendly or unfriendly intention, we can imagine just a few of the reasons visitors may want to visit earth:
1.Natural Resources
If other alien races are as resource dependent as we are, they may be here to discover the resources Earth has left. It is easy to imagine a “mission’ would include assessing these resources, and finding a means to mine or extract them in the future. Resources could include anything from some unused natural resource we are ignorant about, to even people themselves.
2. A Potential Threat?
Despite the fact that long distance space travel is still in the realm of the imagination of science fiction writers. Visitors may see us as some kind of threat, and are watching how our societies develop. No doubt since the last fifty years has been an era of rapid “advancement” – perhaps we may be watched more now then ever before.
3. Anthropology Purposes
Studying how societies develop may not only be reserved to a few social scientists and governments. Far advanced alien societies may find Earth interesting, and watch us as we watch with curiosity- tribal societies on Discovery channel.
4. A Potential Ally
The Universe is a large place, and perhaps more advance races out there are in some kind of “cold war,” just as we were until the early 1990′s. Perhaps visitors may want to court our leaders in exchange for support in the event of a conflict.
5. “Gods” Observing their Subjects
The beliefs that we were created by Gods, and even perhaps an advanced alien race, are not new, and go back thousands of years. These creators could be watching over us, observing how we behave, and perhaps giving us a helping hand when we are in trouble.- a divine force perhaps?
6. A New Colony
Throughout our own history we have colonized, and subdued races, but could an alien race be planning the same?. If they really understood human nature, they would probably use the same tactics as our former empires did- divide and conquer, offer power to the few in return for trade, or even plan to enslave and wipe out whole races for their land.
7. A Stopover on the Galactic Highway
Earth may not be as important as we think. Whilst driving on a highway, sometimes we have to stop, rest and refuel after a long drive. Earth or its environment could be a handy refueling depot, or a place to rest.
8. A Scientific Lab
We do test various products and inventions on our own people and animals, so perhaps our planet is run as a great experiment. Where aliens test the effects of over-population, certain strains of diseases, or even how we affect our own environment.
The possibilities an alien race could be interested in our planet are endless- one that sells both movies and books, and fires our imaginations as we look out to space at night. If aliens do exist, and are advanced as some believe, perhaps one day we really discover their real interest in us.
Dining is one of the biggest and quickest drains on your wallet when you vacation at Disney. People have to eat and Disney takes full advantage of that knowledge by providing restaurants on just about every corner, and most of it pretty steeply priced. However, it is possible to find several places inside of Disney to eat cheaply with a bit of digging.
Magic Kingdom
– Main Street Bake Shop has the best options for a bite of breakfast. They offer baked goods in the 2-3 dollar price range, as well as a breakfast quiche, or cottage cheese with fruit for about 4 dollars. You can also grab sandwiches at lunch time for a decent price as well.
– Columbian Harbor House has vegetarian chili and clam chowder. You can get a bowl of soup for about 5 bucks there. They also offer zero trans fat foods like chicken nuggets and fried fish, as well as salads and sandwiches.
– You can also dine at Cosmic Ray’s and get a rotisserie chicken, with mashed potato’s and veggies for about $9 dollars. They also have wraps and sandwiches, salads, BBQ ribs, burgers and hot dogs among other things. Lunch and dinner only, but entertaining with the animatronic band of aliens.
Animal Kingdom
– Kusifiri Coffee Shop And Bakery is your best bet for breakfast cuisine. Yogurt and fruit cups run about 2-3 dollars, and muffins and sweet rolls run you about 3-4 dollars.
– For the kiddies, Pizzafari is a favorite and offers reasonable food choices like pizza, chicken sandwiches, spaghetti and meat balls, and even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
– Anadupur Local Food Cafe offers egg rolls and fried rice for less than 4 bucks as well, so if you happen to like oriental food than this would be the spot for you.
Epcot World Center
– Electric Umbrella Restaurant is the place to go inside Epcot if you are looking for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Serving breakfast burritos in the morning, french toast and cereal, and bagel sandwiches. After 11am, lunch and dinner is served in the way of chicken tenders, wraps and burgers.
– If you have a hankering for Japanese style food, you can’t go wrong at Yakitori House. It’s affordable and offers up chicken and beef skewers, veggies and rice, and my personal favorite, sushi!
Hollywood Studios
– Hollywood Studios has a lot of affordable places to eat, but the one where you can find breakfast, lunch and dinner all rolled into one would be the ABC Commissary. Think typical fast food and that is what you will be eating. Breakfast is oatmeal, fruit, and egg and cheese bagels. Lunch is things like cheeseburgers and fries, wraps, chicken nuggets, and other typical American fare.
– If that doesn’t suit your fancy you can check out Studio’s Catering Co. Flatbread Grill. For meals under 7 bucks it can’t be beat. Order grilled chicken or pulled pork, Greek salads and chicken wraps. Whatever you taste buds happen to find appealing.
So, there you have it. 10 of some of the least expensive places to eat inside Walt Disney World. There are numerous other affordable locations of course, and then the many not so affordable ones. But this should be a great starting point for you so that no one starves to death on your big outing!

Title of this cartoon; An alien visits Earth. A man explains life on Earth to the alien. The alien (more)?
Title of this cartoon; An alien visits Earth. A man explains life on Earth to the alien. The alien takes everything the man says literally. I can’t remember an example of what was actually in the short, but things along the lines of, “The other day, I had Blue Velvet stuck in my head.” The alien would then think about this man having a length of blue velvet lodged in his head. Basically the alien could not understand slang and took everything extremely literally. At the end, the alien was so disgusted with life on Earth (rather, his interpretation of it) that he sped off back to space. I think this was Looney Toons but I’m not 100% sure. Anyone know the title?

Be careful, don’t underestimate the power of the supernatural.
Here it is! Can you handle it? Science knows only 5% of what the Universe consists of. What is the rest of the “stuff”? 70% is Dark Matter and 25% is Dark Energy. Don’t ask what this Dark Energy and Matter consists of. Why? Because nobody knows, yet.
What does this mean or imply to you and me? It means we can imagine and embrace whatever our imaginations and belief systems allow us to believe.
Who me? I am a Futurist/Science Fiction kind of guy. I like wisdom and keeping things simple. My wisdom teachers tell me, “If you want to know what the Future is going to be like, then read the comic books.” Hey, don’t laugh. I can’t begin to tell you what things I read as fiction in the comic books of my child hood days, are actual realities today.
Things like rocket ships and going to the moon. (I guess this really dates me.) Longevity, accomplishments in medicine and science, computers-oh yeah, the Internet, you name it.
I am just busting out at my breeches to come out with this…what about God and all of the Powers we ascribe to Him, Her, It or Whatever? I am a very positive thinker and an earnest student of human behavior. You talk about Possibility thinking. I love it and eat it up. I also love the magic and excitement of the supernatural.
I am a strong advocate of spirituality. By this statement, I mean I enjoy studying subjects about spirituality-religion, the power of the subconscious, the psychic world and science, yes, and even martial arts. You will find aspects of martial arts that are very spiritual. Yes, and even magical. This is one of the reasons I stuck with Tae Kwon Do and got a 2nd Degree Black Belt!
History shows us that mankind has always been fascinated with the occult. Why? Because, human beings have always desired to have dominion over their environment, from the cavemen to the modern day astronaut.
Martial Artists from early history days, desired to develop god-like powers over their surroundings. This, indirectly, was a big reason martial arts was developed. I am referring to some Asian Cultures, like Japan, Korea, and China.
Are you ready to tap into the Supernatural and get an Edge on life? Or, how about, “get a leg up” on life? What do I mean about the word, supernatural? Lets avoid a lot of discussion and controversy and stick with the likes of the Webster Dictionary… “of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe. Something that transcends the laws of nature”.
You can wiggle “God” into the definition of Supernatural, very easily. But for the sake of this article, I prefer not to.
We definitely have the worship of God and religion to thank for the exhortations of the “Belief Power”. In Marcus Borg’s book Jesus and Buddha, the Parallel Sayings, you will find some fascinating studies which point to the similarities of Jesus’s and Buddha’s teachings.
Here is what Jesus had to say about the power of belief and faith and “making things happen” big time- “Truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17.20
Here is what the Buddha said about the same subject, “A monk who is skilled in concentration can cut the Himalayas in two.” Anguttara Nikaya 6.24
Jesus, “Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them. John 20.26
Buddha, “He goes unhindered through a wall. Anguttara Nikaya 3.60
Simplicity is a beautiful thing. It is very much under rated in today’s society. Strong people of action, that get things done, know this. There is a great deal of merit in KISS. (Keep It Simple Stupid)
Most people will recognize a grain of wisdom in something and then they go on and analyze the heck out of it, until the spark of insight or wisdom they recognized, is served fruitless and impotent. Holy smoke, that sounds like fun! Just kidding. Anyway, I am sure you get the picture.
The point of this article is that we don’t have a clue as to what is real or not. Whatever we believe, needs to be taken on faith. The recorded history of man is approximately 5000 years. That’s all. This world has been around billions of years according to men of science. And, the universe has another 30 billion years or so to go. How’s that for a future?
We only have an idea of approximately 5% of what is going on in the Universe. What we call the Supernatural, God or whatever, may have totally new names and or references. I surmised this from the possibility of greater knowledge of the universe as time progresses.
Instead of referring to “God or the Supernatural” mankind may end up calling it whatever, depending on the properties that are discovered or associated with the “supernatural”. This may be wishful thinking, like aliens from outer space. But, I seriously doubt it.
Regardless of how analytical or cynical you are, you can’t deny the simple power of belief. For example, like it or not, medicine and science has proven that religious people live healthier and longer lives for a host of reasons. Say what you want, these supplicants and worshipers of the Supernatural are laughing all the way to the Grimreaper. Hey, who’s to say. If it works, why not? At least until we can come up with something new or different. Right?
