What was the aliens’ weakness in Independence Day?

a computer virus that weakend the shields so they can do damage to the ships and then they detinated a nuke in the “mother ship” and attempted to fire a missile causing that 1 ship to blow up but the guys missile didnt fire and so he flew and crashed into it causing it to back fire and boom… lol i pretty much just gave away the whole ending

Recently I saw in a film (” District 9″), narrator says ” for surprise of all, the aliens did not settle on New York or Chicago, They settle on Johannesburg, in South Africa. So why do you believe they must settle on New York or Chicago like in “independence day”? ” so why not on Johannesburg, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Berlin or Moscow? Is usa the capital of the world or something like that?

Since it’s made by American filmmakers for a large American audience, you’d expect it to be in NYC or Chicago because those are two of the biggest cities. It also costs a lot more to travel abroad to another place to film.

Americans don’t think they’re better than people from other countries. It’s actually the other way around – people from other countries think they’re better than Americans.

Angry aliens at District 9 – Johannesburg

Character’s Role: Snoop is a senior lieutenant in Marlo Stanfield’s drug syndicate and it is her in conjunction with Chris Partlow who commit the vast majority of murders for Marlo. Snoop’s proper name, Felicia Pearson (which is actually the exact same as the actor who plays her), is seen only a few times during the seasons and it is never spoken out loud, rather it’s only revealed on police post-it notes or files.

Snoop is a cold blooded killer carrying out dozens of murders together with Chris. She doesn’t think twice about killing anyone… even those in Marlo’s own organization.

Among Snoop’s most defining attributes is her dialect and she is almost certainly one of the toughest characters to understand in the show (and that’s saying a lot as a large number of the players in The Wire talk in an incredibly convoluted slang).

She is also portrayed as somewhat gender ambiguous and in initial scenes, folks may be unclear as to whether she’s a man or a woman.

Actress: Felicia Pearson. Pearson was actually born on Baltimore’s east side to 2 imprisoned drug addicts and became a drug dealer at a very early age instead of attending grade school. She was found guilty of second degree murder at the age of 14 and served six and a half years of 2 sequential 8 year terms. Felicia became involved with The Wire after bumping into Michael Williams (“Omar”) at a club and being invited to meet the directors.

Which Seasons: In seasons 3 – 5.

Best Scene: Snoop’s visit to a fictional Home Depot store is the opening scene of Season 4 and is without a doubt one of the most hilarious scenes in The Wire.

Favorite Quote: “You earned that buck like a motherf*er, man.” Snoop says this to the fake Home Depot store employee who she buys a powder-action nail gun from. This is almost the only scene in which Snoop is talking to someone who is not in the game and the entire scene is absolutely hilarious because the Home Depot employee assumes she’s just an innocent typical Baltimore resident buying a nail gun (the audience knows better) and despite the fact that Snoop pretty much tells him that she is using the nail gun for murders she is carrying out, it’s clear that the employee is only registering about fifty percent of what Snoop says (much like the audience).

Foil / Rival: In contrast to many other characters in the show, Snoop doesn’t have a real foil or rival. She has her partner in Chris, but he is definitely more compliment than foil, and Snoop’s relationships with people beyond Marlo and Chris are incredibly limited. She is perhaps best foiled by her and Chris’ apprentice, Michael, whose desire to know “why” he is doing what he’s doing is criticized by Snoop and is almost alien to her cold-hearted simple nature.

Critical Analysis: Many critics have cited Snoop as one of the most frightening characters in the show as she commits countless murders without pausing for question. Stephen King has said that she is “perhaps the most terrifying female villain to ever appear in a television series.”

It seems almost everyday we are given a new mind-boggling image from the Hubble Telescope showing such an immense clarity to our Universe that it’s almost beyond comprehension. The latest phenomenal picture shows the Universe at just 600 million years after the Big Bang. It’s the earliest image yet. There are thousands of galaxies. This brings up the eternal questions: Does God exist, and are we alone?

Our most recent Hubble picture details distant simpler galaxies in the midst of newer, closer, more established ones. It’s a portrait of countless galaxies in differing stages of development over a 13-billion-year time frame. How can our feeble minds assimilate all of this infinite and eternal information?

When I see these images and contemplate the nature of our human existence, I can not believe anything but that there has to be an Intelligent Being behind it all: God, a Higher Power, The Great Mystery, The Omnipresent Energy, Eric Clapton…whatever you choose to call It.

As we delve back toward the beginnings of the Universe, the immense and incomprehensive enormity of it all, it seems there must be other human beings out there, somewhere. The more galaxies, stars and planets we discover, the better the chances. I’ve heard all the arguments pro and con just like you have. But, if you just want to consider the odds, well they certainly seem to be increasing exponentially with every new Hubble picture, don’t they? Why should we on this tiny little jewel called Earth be so privileged to be “The Only Ones?” In a Universe with such indescribable vastness, how is it that we are the fortunate few, the only intelligent life in the Universe? Really, come on now, how can this be true (and I’m not going to bombard you here with an argument about how intelligent the human race isn’t, though it is undeniably tempting)?

And, as if the Hubble weren’t enough, in 4 years, NASA’s new space observatory, the James Webb telescope, will launch. Then we actually will be able to see into the very beginnings of our Universe. It seems as if the more more we learn, the less we know. It’s thee ultimate mystery, and each one of us has the lucky good fortune to watch it unfold. Maybe, and this is my huge hope, all of this discovery might even help bring us together as one united Family of Man to save this tiny speck of once-great Earthly Heaven. But then again…

Are we, the human race, so overtly conceited that we refuse to accept the ever-increasing possibility that there is indeed other life out there in our beautiful beloved Universe? God, I hope not.
