Illegal immigration is a controversial issue in our country. However, Obama hopes Congress is able to draft legislation to deal with immigration reform before the end of 2010. In June 2009, Obama asked Homeland Security Secretary, June Napolitano, to work with Congress to speed up immigration reform. In 2006 and 2007. Congress failed to pass immigration reform bills even though President Bush was pushing for them.

One of Obama’s campaign pledges was to deal with illegal immigration, yet it has not happened yet. One of the major problems our country faces is how to handle the 12 million illegal immigrants and how to prevent future illegal immigration. Some of Obama’s opponents are resistant to his ideas since they believe he is an illegal immigrant himself since he had a Kenyan father and an American mother.

There are several problems. First, the health care reform bill, H.R. 3590, has several problems regarding illegal immigration. The current law requires legal aliens to wait five years before they can access certain taxpayer-funded health benefits. Secondly, verification loopholes allow illegal aliens access to these benefits. Third, the language of the bill does not prevent illegal aliens accessing these benefits.

In addition to the ability to access taxpayer benefits they don’t contribute to, illegal immigration affects jobs for Americans. With the unemployment rate at 10% for November 2009, we are now facing the worst economic recession since the Great Depression. Consequently, Americans need jobs! Unfortunately, many Americans have become hopeless about finding a job and are no longer even looking for work. For others, many are either working a part-time job when they would rather be working full-time, or they are working two jobs just to make ends meet. Even though the job situation is desperate for many, our country’s leaders are considering passing amnesty legislation to enable the illegal immigrants to stay here.

At the 2000 census, there were approximately 8 million illegal immigrants in this country. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that illegal aliens in this country will increase by 700,000 to 900,000 annually during the next 20 years. If we care about our economic health and future, we cannot allow this exodus into our country to continue. Not only do they take jobs away from Americans, but they have an effect on the depression of wages, too. Today, we have 15.4 million unemployed Americans, yet we have at least 8+ million illegal aliens competing for available jobs. Furthermore, while the effect of illegal immigration does not depress wages on all jobs, it does depress wages for low paying entry-level jobs. In 2000, the average illegal immigrant either had no reported profession or no job at all. Furthermore, more than 1/3 were not even high school graduates. According to FAIR, “High immigration cities have twice as much unemployment as low immigration cities, and wage increases in low immigration cities have been 48% higher than in high immigration cities.”

It’s not that I am not sympathetic for the plight of illegal aliens, but I strongly believe it is our country’s resposibility to take care of their own people first. If you’re concerned about this problem, please contact you elected officials, and let your voice be heard.

Currently, one of the problems our country faces is a jobless recovery. A jobless recovery is when the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) improves but unemployment does not improve along with it. The GDP is one of the main indicators of our country’s economic health. However, since 70% of the GDP is fueled by consumer spending, when unemployment is high, the GDP won’t grow as quickly. Recently in Paris I noticed serveral graphical representations of ‘bugs’ on the side of buildings. Why?

They were mosaic, and looked like 8 bit computer graphics. They could have been bugs or aliens or octupuses. Different colours. Lots in Monmatre, a few in Marais. Does anyone know what they are and why they are there?

These are done by a specialized artist that has placed more than 700 of them in Paris.
He has also started to colonize other cities from Anvers to Mombasa.

Why do the liberal/democrats always run and hide from this question?

Democratic voters and liberals are heavily concentrated in certain areas…..especially Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans, and Washington Dc………

Areas like NYC and Los Angeles are also very rich areas that contribute a great deal of tax money to their states and to the nation because of the concentration of population and business.

I sincerely believe that “donor” states, like California and New York, under the federal tax system, should not be required to support “welfare” states, which tend to be mostly conservative and Republican, through federal taxes.

Factoring out social security and medicare, no state should receive more federal money than it contributes. The liberal donor states should be able to get their federal tax money returned to them so that they can address the social issues that generally affect high density population areas.

One small step for law enforcment, one giant step back for Illegals who protest our laws! I live not far from there andI know most on here do not know what you are talking about. The city government planned a vote to help Law Enforcement send (operative word here) CRIMMINAL Illegal’s information to the Immigration Department. Which means that instead of “Catch and release” like most juristdictions do. If an Illegal is now Arrested for a crime in Waukegan IL. the cops hands are no longer tied and they can report them to the proper authorities!

Crop circles aren’t really that hard to make. You just need a decent topographic map, a compass, a 2×4, a rope, and some planning to get them to look pretty uniform.

The Making Work Pay Credit has substantial impact on Americans and is targeted towards lower and middle income taxpayers. This credit is one of many tax changes resulting from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. According to a report from the Tax Inspector General for the Tax Administration dated November 27, 2009, the Making Work Pay Credit is expected to impact 116 million taxpayers.

Basically the credit was designed to provide tax relief for working people. Although the credit is technically claimed by taxpayers when they file their 2009 and 2010 tax returns, most taxpayers have already received the benefit of this credit by reduced payroll withholdings (and larger net paychecks) that went into effect during 2009. Unlike last year’s stimulus payment taxpayers did not receive a check. Taxpayers received this credit almost immediately, through a reduction in taxpayer’s payroll withholdings. Furthermore, this credit is also computed and reflected in the taxpayer’s 2009 tax return. The credit is basically $400 for single taxpayers and $800 for married couples filing joint returns. It is calculated as the lesser of 6.2% of the taxpayers earned income or $400 for single taxpayers and $800 for married couples filing a joint return.

Credit limitations – Income taxpayers with higher incomes are not eligible for the credit. This credit is reduced by 2% of a single individual’s modified adjusted gross income that exceeds $75,000. For married couples filing jointly, the threshold amount is $150,000. The Making Work Pay tax credit, is also subject to a reduction by the amount of any Economic Recovery Payment($250 per eligible recipient of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Railroad Retirement or Veteran’s benefits) or Special Credit for Certain Government Retirees($250 per eligible federal or state retiree) that you may have received.

Who can benefit from the credit? The credit is applicable only for taxpayers who have earned income. This means taxpayers must have been gainfully employed and received taxable compensation from wages, salaries and tips. Net earnings from self-employment is considered earned income.

In addition, earned income does not include the following:

• Pension and annuity payments
• Non-taxable compensation
• Parsonage allowance

The following individuals are not entitled to the credit:

• Tax filers without valid Social Security numbers
• Taxpayers who could be claimed as another taxpayer’s dependent
• Nonresident aliens
• Estates and trusts

You may have a potential problem when filing your 2009 tax returns, if you had two jobs during the year and both employers reduced your withholdings. As a result of having improper withholdings from two jobs, you may receive a smaller tax refund or you may have to pay taxes as a result of the reduced withholding that was deducted during the year. Since most employers applied the new withholding tables assuming the income from that employer was the only source of the taxpayer’s income. In this connection, insufficient withholding may result of up to $400 per employer in excess of one for taxpayers who do not file jointly, or $800 per employer in excess of one for joint filers. A potential problem, could occur for taxpayers who had other income in addition to their W-2 wages. The other income could put you into the total or partial phase-out category of the credit, and could result in under-withholding of up to $400 ($800 for joint filers). And finally, this is a new tax credit and may be an easy for taxpayers who prepare their own taxes to miss.

How to report to the Internal Revenue Service ? If you receive less than the full amount of the anticipated credit through decreased withholding, then you may be entitled to the full credit on your return. For 2009, taxpayers are required to use Schedule M to report the tax credit. If you use Form 1040EZ instead of schedule M, there is a worksheet on page 2 of the Form 1040EZ that allows you to compute the credit amount.

I have a florida drivers licence,can I get one in another state?

I have a florida drivers licence that expires in January,because I am here on a visa (legally I might add!!) they will only renew until the visa expires,can I go to another state ,that does not treat us Brits like aliens from another planet,get another licence there which would be for 5 years then exchange it for a 5 year one in Florida?Or would Florida resort to the visa date again?

The law is a federal one. The RealID Act is a stupid law, which prevents out-of-status aliens from having a driver license. You can only get a license in the state in which you reside and it expires when your visa expires.

Although there are some states which have not yet implemented it, all states have to follow that rule by 2009.
