In the 1970′s the average city dweller was exposed to 500 to 2,000 ad messages a day; today it’s between 3,000 and 5,000. (Yankelovich, October 2006)
Think about it at any moment in time thousands of aliens are vying for your attention – for a marketer to penetrate that clutter they need to be different and creative
Jay Conrad Levinson, the father of guerrilla marketing, highlights research that shows that a person must be exposed to an advert 27 times before they are ready to take action.
As a Motivational Speaker, I know I have to embrace all medium to excite, inform, challenge and inspire my audiences. Thus understanding that the average attention span is small circa three mins, I tend to engage people by embedding the key messages/facts in a cocktail of exercises and stories throughout the sessions. People remember stories and exercises with an attached learning point they struggle to retain naked facts!
People are not only overwhelmed with stimuli they are also very distracted. The latest research from the University of California is it takes approx 3mins 11 secs before someone is interrupted from the task at hand.
Meanwhile have you noticed the huge shift from conversation to presentation, and from dialogue to monologue? Check this pattern out today. Observe how few real conversations take place and that there are more and more presentations. Honouring their insatiable appetite for attention, people look like they are going to pounce on their colleagues as they wait to either interrupt or ‘present’ their contribution!
In summary, we are living in an attention deficit society – we either get different or get out.
With this in mind we need to know the answers to the following:
What is your business?
What is unique about it?
Where are you going?
Of course as has been said many, many times before; you can’t expect people to travel with you if they don’t know where they are going.
These appear to be quite simple innocuous questions however they are questions many people struggle with.
When you know what’s different, you can then tell the story using all mediums.

TRANSCENDENCE Part 3 – Atlantis, Aliens, Fractals, norway spiral and Battlestar Gallactica
Why is Bush smiling so much lately with the USA in such a state?
I mean lately Bush has had this huge grin on his face, looking like the cat that swallowed the canary…looking like someone who is very pleased with himself. Hey I dont mind someone being happy, but it is a bit eerie given the fact we have record budget deficits, record trade deficits, record illegal aliens invading, record warfare quagmire going on, record low value of the dollar, record consistently high gas prices, inflation on the rise, housing values falling drastically, record foreclosures, rising hatred of the USA overseas, record outsourcing of jobs of americans overseas, out of control health care costs and millions of working americans not covered by insurance for health care, record drop out rates of high school students, etc.,etc…etc….. Clearly we are going through a rough patch, and the scary thing is Bush seems very pleased about it…or perhaps pleased about the job he has done.
In his mind, Bush thinks he has accomplished his mission. YOu see by the time he is out of office, americans will hate government, and Bush’s mission was to ruin the country and break the governnent financially, hire the most icompetent depatment heads and show americans that relying on government to be efficient and worthwhile is idiotic. Hence, post Bush most americans will want government to be as small as possible.
Obama called a liar during his health care speech; “Illegal Immigrants will not be insured?”
Are there any books or essays about the music score in Hollywood movies?
Hi. I was wondering if there are somee books that could explain ther reason why , since 100 years, in every Hollywood movies there is 80 % of classical music played at any circumstances, I mean this corny, mellow music you hear in almost every scene , full of violins, piano, cellos…. mostly a full orchestra. I mean, even in SF-movies you hear that. Since it’s really impossible to fight aliens on some undercovered planet with Beethoven playing in the background, I was asking myself: why the directors never use an appropriate score for the scenes, like Europeans do ? If you shoot a wild-west-movie, then use wild-west music, the stuff people were playing in the saloon or in the year 1860 !! And if the lonely ranger is driving through the mountains , hunting a couple of rustlers, he’a surely not listening some Bach sonatas or Chopin ballads !! So my questions: Are there some book that could explain this mania of playing the same scores over and over ?
My guess is that film scores were written for full orchestras in the 1930s and 1940s when the films were black and white melodramas, and orchestral scores just carried over.
I’m not sure if Chopin is playing in western movies…how about Sergio Leone’s masterful Good, Bad, and the Ugly Theme?
And Star Wars would be greatly diminished without the contributions of John Williams.
Recently I saw in a film (” District 9″), narrator says ” for surprise of all, the aliens did not settle on New York or Chicago, They settle on Johannesburg, in South Africa. So why do you believe they must settle on New York or Chicago like in “independence day”? ” so why not on Johannesburg, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Berlin or Moscow? Is usa the capital of the world or something like that?
Since it’s made by American filmmakers for a large American audience, you’d expect it to be in NYC or Chicago because those are two of the biggest cities. It also costs a lot more to travel abroad to another place to film.
Americans don’t think they’re better than people from other countries. It’s actually the other way around – people from other countries think they’re better than Americans.
Do you want to play games online but aren’t too familiar with what’s currently out there or how to get started? Here’s a quick overview.
Most online games are free, supported mostly by ads, though some games charge users for premium features. Casual games are the most popular because they are user-friendly, easy to learn and can usually be completed in 10 minutes or less. Massively multiplayer online games are fast gaining popularity and are the next major potential game market. Recent surveys conducted by Nielson show that 72.5% of households in the US have broadband connections. Homes with broadband connections are naturally the hottest target for online games. Also advances in software technology, especially the introduction of Java and Flash, have given a boost to playing games online. Here’s a summary of the various online gaming options now available –
–Online First Person Shooter Games
These games allow you to enjoy an arena style of play whereby you take on your competitor head-to-head. Since the introduction of DOOM in the early 90′s this type of online gaming has become extremely popular among the younger teenagers. What makes it a rage is its amazing graphics featuring exciting armed combat scenarios, deadly arsenals, and a cast of nefarious enemies to shoot at. Kids worldwide have been thrilled with the release of Doom 3, Far Cry, Halo2 and others. Another, older online game, also of the first person shooter type, is what has been described as “The best game ever” by the PC Gamer Magazine. In Half Life 2 the player is tasked with saving Earth from deadly aliens who have attacked our world. It has won more than 100 gaming awards. Another popular game is The Jackal, which takes you to Africa in the search of a mysterious killer. To succeed in your mission you have to exploit and play on the weaknesses of various warlords through crafting plots, using force and planning surprise attacks.
–Strategic Games
Another way to play games online is real time strategic games, which match you against other players or you can join a group or a board and form lobbies in the game rooms. Some popular options to select from are Pokemonindigo, where you can team up with as many as 6 members and battle your rivals to prove your team’s supremacy. This is a free game and can be played indefinitely. Another award-winning game is Microsoft Age of Empires, where players have to build up their tribes’ wealth and civilization by waging and winning war, thereby adding to their wealth. If you are a Star Trek movie fan, then Netrek is the game for you where two teams representing two different forces fight for control over the galaxy by combating enemy spaceships and conquering planets.
–Web Browser-Based Games
With the advancement in web technologies like JSP, HTML, Flash and Java, complex web browser-based games were created by developers which use Windows Explorer web browser as a client. These are mostly single player games where a user can create huge scores, but nowadays many multiplayer games are also being developed. The biggest advantage of these games is that they do not require any software installation at your end. The most popular of the browser-based online games is the famous arcade game Pac Man. Other free arcade games can be searched at Freearcade.com. Browser- based pet games are also very popular, such as Neopets an Net Pet where you can “virtually” adopt and play with your own pet. You can even buy them collars, food, toys and the like. This type of game is a big hit among grade-school-age children who play games online.
–Massively Multiplayer Online Games
As said, high speed broadband access has created a huge market for massively multiplayer online games (MMOG’s) where people from all over the world can login and play simultaneously. There are various types of MMOG games, the most popular being massively multiplayer online role playing games or MMORPG. The best example of MMORPG is Cyberdunk, the basketball MMORPG where you can be a player, a trainer or even own your own basketball team. As in any role playing game you have fictitious “avatars” whose looks and actions can be controlled by you. If you want to, you can outfit your avatars with training equipment and different accessories. The various players can even interact with each other. Some MMORPGS are also based on fantasy themes like sword fights, comic characters and even science fiction. Already, this sector of the gaming business is taking in a cool billion bucks a year.
Another popular type of MMOG is MMORTS or massively multiplayer online real time strategy games. Like in strategic games, people can form groups and teams. Maybe you can even appoint yourself head of the team or General of the Army. The first MMORTS game was developed in 1998, called Mankind. It let you be a miner, mercenary, warrior or merchant, in each case involved in a quest to build an empire. Another popular MMORTS is Shattered Galaxy which was developed by Nexon Inc, Japan, and is a sci-fi type adventure game. At present, there is a fast-emerging concept of browser-based MMOG’s which are a comparatively cheaper way to play games online than the original MMOGs available in the market.

Star Trek VIII: First Contact (Remastered) [Blu-ray]

Even-numbered Star Trek movies tend to be better, and First Contact (#8 in the popular movie series) is no exception--an intelligently handled plot involving the galaxy-conquering Borg and their attempt to invade Earth's past, alter history, and "assimilate" the entire human race. Time travel, a dazzling new Enterprise, and capable direction by Next Generation alumnus Jonathan Frakes makes this on...
What do you imagine when you hear or read the word “Hollywood”? I immediately think “glamour”. Even before I consider film-making, or simply the place in America where it all happens, my mind produces a vision of huge houses, big cars, and stars in luxurious dresses and expensive suits on the red carpet on Oscar night. And I wonder how Hollywood became “the factory of dreams”.
The beginnings of the film-making industry were not easy, and the main concerns were practical business issues such as unreliable technology and the hard search for money. For the first few decades of the 20th century movies were silent, and the cinema was thought to be nothing more than a passing craze which would never become a serious art form. But even when the “talkies” began and audience could hear actors speaking, there were still many people who refused to take movies seriously. They thought films could never be as meaningful and realistic as a theatrical performance.
In its early days the film industry had to struggle with technical problems, poor artistic quality and critical disapproval. However, the cinema was a new powerful medium of communication able to send pictures to faraway places and popularize people and ideas more quickly and efficiently than the theatre ever could. And so before long it had become something special and Hollywood stars were icons of popular culture, famous around the world.
Films, of course, were being made in other parts of world, and yet it was only Hollywood that found the universal recipe for huge financial success. As one critic said, Hollywood movies began to sell people their own dreams and nightmares.
Are people really dumb enough to believe that aliens have visited from outer space?
Not one good video or picture. No satellite coverage. No real evidence. For thousands of years this continues to be a fairy tale. Only seen in redneck infested areas like Stevensville, Texas. When was the last UFO sighted over NYC or LA? San Diego?
Is this a rhetorical question?
Of course some people are that stupid. Benny Hinn still makes money, right?
Well, at least cx329 gets it. Evidence, people. You need evidence before you can make outlandish claims, no matter what they are. So many of you are challenging him on the assumption that he’s saying there’s no possiblity for organic life to exist anywhere else in the universe. That’s not what the question asked.
Or, are we suddenly giving credibility to UFO conspiracy theorists who wear tin foil hats to keep the CIA from beaming secret messages into their brains and think that aliens are interested in what’s up their butts?
