Don’t you wish you knew when the bottom of the market was, so you knew when to buy? Don’t you wish you knew when the top of the market was so you could sell before the drop? Imagine if you had such a crystal ball, well, predicting the economic future is not so difficult. I’ve done quite well in my predictions, so let me explain a bit of how I do it.
First, I scan all the headlines, study the perception of the people, investors, leaders and consumers, and then I act based on these thoughts. Of course, it all starts with research. One of the best things you can do is to write down the major financial highlights of each day. After you’ve done this for a couple of decades, you’ll begin to see obvious trends. For instance, let’s take the mid-day headlines of February 18, 2009:
- Wal-Mart posts 7.7% reduction in profit
- Goldman Saks margin calls on own partners; used stock (down 50% as collateral)
- GM to lay off 47,000 more Worldwide
- US Auto Suppliers ask Treasury for 25 Billion
- Buffet goes on the buy again; sells some staples
- Pakistan’s deal with Taliban has NATO worried
- Greenspan advises temporary nationalization of US Banks
- B of A stock hit hard by 4.5% down today; pre-Obama speech
- Senator Buris Blosavich’s Replacement faces resignation, indictment
- Mexico Border Towns getting worse – Illegal Aliens ask to stay in US
- Man rescues cat in tree in SC – ha ha ha
- AIDS in China underestimated – much worse than reported
- Deadlocked California Legislators admit; Can’t Solve Budget Crisis
- Washington State Budget cuts cause riots
- GA Tech researchers create Stealthy UAV; cannot be seen
- Construction of Homes in January; lowest 35-years
