Sandra asks…
Questions about the Bible; Genesis, aliens, and evolution?
so Q number 1: is this evidence of evolution in the Bible? (Genesis 2:7 “and the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”) in evolution, supposedly we evolved over millions of years and began as bacteria, amoeba and the like from the earth.. now Christians say they dont believe in evolution because it goes against the Word, but i believe this to be evidence of evolution. feedback please?
Q #2: aliens. (Genesis 1:26 “And God said LET US MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE, AFTER OUR LIKENESS…”) who does this refer to? “Us”? “Our”? these are all words indicating there is more than one being who created humans.. are they aliens? multiple gods? who do you think they are?
im a christian and believe in the Word, but i am also a man of science and like to have things proved. scientists have shown over and over evidence of evolution and other beings, and i believe they exist, although they werent mentioned in the bible.. FEEDBACK?
Joy answers:
Q#1 – I don’t see that as evidence of an evolutionary idea. It’s just a story written by someone from an ancient society.
Q#2 – That passage is one of the earliest-written parts of the Bible. If you study the ancient Semitic origins of the Jews, and study the history of the texts of the book of Genesis, you will find that the ancient Semites, ancestors of the Israelites and Jews, believed in the existence of many gods. Evidence indicates that this part of the Bible was written by those very early people, and the “us” there refers to other gods. The earliest word for “God” in the texts is “elohim” in the Hebrew, which means “gods” (plural). Over time, the belief system changed to identify one chief god among others – roughly transliterated from the Hebrew as “Yahweh.” Yahweh was “of hosts” – the meaning of this is that he commanded a military host. He was a war god, and became the patron of the Hebrew people.
The above explanation is based on study of the text of the Bible, combined with anthropological views on the subject. Ask a Jewish person, and you’ll probably get a different answer.
As for the question of who or what the gods might be, I think it would explain a lot if we discovered solid evidence indicating that the presence of extra-terrestrial biological beings at those times are what was being written of. There is a lot of evidence to suggest this, but it I think it’s far from conclusive.
